Here's a "fun" question.
This store - Amyx Hardware and Roofing Equipment - in Tennessee has put up a sign saying "no gays allowed."
Did you notice one of the other signs?
The one that says he has a contract from the Tennesse Wildlife Resource Agency to sell hunting and fishing licenses?
Now my question is this... should a person acting as an agent of the state in his retail establishment be permitted to bar otherwise legal state product customers based on his religious preferences?
I didn't think so, but apparently, legally, I was wrong.
I spoke with a nice woman from the TWRA who told me "unfortunately we are not able to tell our agents who they may or may not sell to."
She DID say that if behavior reflects poorly on the agency they could refer it to the director, who could remove their equipment from the facility. Upon being informed that the sign sits DIRECTLY above the TWRA sign, she agreed to inform the director (especially considering mine was the second call in two days.)
She says they will forward it to their legal team as well.
Now I'm going to take them at their word and give it a few days to go through channels, but if they don't decide that deputizing a man who posts this sign right along theirs is an embarrassment to the agency, some of you fine folks might just have to call and help persuade them as well.
